Diving Into Love: "It Does Not Dishonor Others"

Continuing our study, let's review our anchor passage:

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV

[4] Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. [5] It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. [6] Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. [7] It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Continuing our study in how to love people, we look at a simple sentence today at the start of verse 5, "It does not dishonor others." What does THAT mean? Other translations say it in a simple way that clarifies, "Is not rude." Love doesn't dishonor others by being rude. Love is not rude to people. We all know what being rude to someone is. So, we make up our minds beforehand that we will never be rude to people. 

That's what we have been learning in our anchor passage. By this passage, we decide in advance that this is how we will treat all people, no matter what. Then we KNOW we are loving them. 

For example, if you are always patient and kind to people, then you know you are loving them. If you are never rude to people, then you are loving them. See? Easy peesy. 

The anchor passage is also a great gauge to use to see if you are truly loving people. A way to check and monitor your behavior. 

For example, was I patient today? Was I kind today? Was I easily angered today? Etc. See?

Well, Jeff, why do I care how I treat people on a given day? Because, again, we all represent Jesus. The Church represents Jesus. We want people to see and feel the love of Jesus through us. So how we treat people in love is most important. Loving people is the only way God can use us to draw people to Himself so they can be saved too. It starts with truly loving people by treating people like it says in this passage. That's why I am doing an indepth study of this passage.

So, continuing on, again, don't be rude to anyone at any time.

Next, we will do a huge study on not being "self-seeking" which is being selfish. Love is not selfish!!

Through this extended study, we are really learning how to treat all people. We are learning how to truly love all people!! So cool!! I've been enjoying it and I hope you have been too.

Diving Into Love: "It Does Not Boast. It Is Not Proud" Part 2

Continuing our study in I. Cor. 13:4-7, we will look at pride. Love is not proud, so being filled with pride will prevent us from truly loving others. As we will see, pride produces quite the opposite of love.

Pride- is exaggerated self-esteem.                Conceit, arrogance, and haughtiness are associated with pride also, which will give us a clearer understanding of pride.

Conceit- is an exaggerated opinion of oneself.

Arrogance- is an offensive attitude of superiority shown by excessively confident or rudely dismissive behavior.

Haughtiness- great pride in oneself and disdain, contempt, or scorn for others.

Haughty- blatantly and disdainfully proud: having or showing an attitude of superiority and contempt for people or things perceived to be inferior.

Pride, as we see here, is being so confident of oneself that one feels superior to everyone around them, and treats everyone as inferior to them. In their own estimation, they are better than everyone else. We see this is taking healthy self-esteem and blowing it up to unhealthy proportions. How can a person filled with pride, conceit, arrogance, and haughtiness love others that, to them, are so far beneath them or inferior to them? Simply? They can't. 

As Christians, let's commit to never acting this way!! Such repulsive behavior!! Yuck!! Nobody is better than anyone else. Why? "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," Rom.3:23. We're all equal. So, let's never act like that. We can't love people if we're like that.

Okay, let's look at scriptures pertaining to pride, conceit, and haughtiness.

Proverbs 6:16-19 NIV

[16] There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: [17] haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, [18] a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, [19] a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

[2] When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

[10] Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.

Diving Into Love: "It Does Not Boast, It Is Not Proud" Part 1

Continuing our study on how to love, how to treat all people, we find out that we should be humble and that we should NOT be prideful. Here is our anchor passage again:

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV

[5] It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. [6] Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. [7] It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

"It does not boast, it is not proud," is where we pick up at. So, let's look at humility and pride for these next 2 blog entries. Today, we will dive into humility.

Sometimes when people think about humility, they have the wrong view about it. Some have been taught that humility is looking down on yourself, having a lowly outlook on one's self. This is wrong and totally not true. 

Humility is a healthy and accurate view of who you are. Being humble as Webster defines it is "freedom from pride or arrogance." Humility doesn't brag or boast. When we are humble in life, we do not elevate ourselves above others. We do not think we are better than anyone else, but we maintain a healthy view of who we are in life. Our status, education, net worth, talents, abilities, strengths do not make us better than others. All these things show is that we all have different gifts and talents, and that each human life is unique and wonderful. Paul explained this in Romans 12:

Romans 12:3 NIV

[3] For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 

So, we don't brag or boast about who we are and make others feel bad about themselves, or "less than," as we are all special and unique in our own way. We have a healthy, reasonable outlook on who we are. We don't think too highly of ourselves, but we don't think too lowly of ourselves either. We maintain a normal image of ourselves based on what God has given each one of us. This is being humble. Doing this, we can treat all people with dignity and respect, because we are content and at peace with who we are. We like and accept ourselves, so we can like and accept others for who they are. We do not have to brag and boast, because we don't need the validation and approval of others. We're happy with who we are, so we can be happy with who others are. Humility is very liberating if you ask me. We can truly have "freedom from pride and arrogance."

[33] The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous. [34] He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.

[33] Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honor.

Proverbs 16:18-19 NIV

[18] Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. [19] Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed than to share plunder with the proud.

We gain a clear picture through these passages about being humble before God and mankind.

Diving Into Love: "It Does Not Envy"

Today we continue our study and breakdown of our anchor passage:

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV

[4] Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. [5] It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. [6] Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. [7] It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Focusing on how to truly love people, which is knowing how to treat everyone, we continue to the next sentence in the passage. "It does not envy,". Love does not envy.

What is envy?

Webster's dictionary defines it as, "a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions, qualities, or luck."

It also includes jealousy- hostile toward a rival or one believed to enjoy an advantage.

And covetousness- marked by inordinate (excessive) desire for wealth or possessions of another.

So, if we roll all 3 together, we can see what these people are trying to explain. Simply? Envy is wanting what someone else has, whether possessions, character traits, wealth, physical qualities, or whatever. Simply? A person wants what someone else has.

It's easy to see why love can have no part with envy.

For example: If you know someone who has a big house and you wish you had it, you will never be able to truly love that person because of the resentment built up in your heart against them. You resent them because they have a big, fancy house and you don't. So you will never love them like God wants you to.

Let's explore this a bit more? Why are you envious against them? Because you are unhappy with your life. You are not happy, content, or thankful for your life. So, you desire what others have because you think it will make you happy. Maybe it's deeper than that, maybe you do not love yourself. So, you think that if you had their life, then that would help you love yourself. If you lived where they live, if you had what they had, if you looked like they look, then maybe you would love yourself.

Jesus said, "Love your neighbor as yourself." If you don't love yourself then you can't love others. 

Envy comes from a poor self-image. If you love yourself, are happy with yourself, and happy with where you are in life, then there is no need to want what someone else has. That makes it real simple. You have to love yourself and be happy with your life to eradicate envy from your life. When envy is gone, then you will not be selfish, always looking at your own wants and desires. You will be content with all you are and all you have and won't have to compare yourself with others. You won't have to prove yourself or have to have validation from others. You will begin to see those in your life and enjoy them. You will be able to celebrate others and be happy for others in your life. You'll be able to love others. So no envy!!!

NOTE: It is interesting here. I am learning that things that love is NOT, in the text, stems from selfishness. Things that love IS stems from a lack of selfishness. Just something to keep in mind as we move firward.

Diving Into Love: "Love Is Kind"

Continuing our study from our anchor passage I. Cor. 13:4-7:

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV

[4] Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. [5] It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. [6] Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. [7] It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

We progress to the next characteristic of love, which is being kind or having kindness. So, we begin by asking, what is kindness?

Kindness-is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate according to the Oxford English dictionary. It also includes qualities of warmheartedness, goodness, and helpfulness according to the Thompson Chain Reference Study Bible. 

So, there's a lot of good stuff packed into being kind to people. Just this idea of being kind fills me with happiness. I want to be kind to people. I want to be nice to people. I want those qualities of kindness to flow out of me by the Holy Spirit working through me. 

As we allow the Holy Spirit to work through us, we can be friendly, generous, considerate, warmhearted, good, and helpful. This how to love people, by showing them kindness.

Now, let's dive into scriptures related to kindness:

Psalms 112:4 NIV

[4] Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.

Proverbs 19:22 NIV

[22] What a person desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar.

Isaiah 58:6-7 NIV

[6] “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? [7] Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

Romans 12:10 NIV

[10] Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

[3] We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. So, loving all people involves kindness. Again, our outflowing actions to all people regardless of how they treat us. Be kind to everyone because we represent Jesus and want them to go to heaven too.

Diving Into Love: "Love is Patient," Part 3

 Our anchor passage, I. Cor. 13:4-7 begins with "Love is patient." We started by looking deeply into longsuffering, which is having mercy and forgiveness. Now, in part 3, we see exactly what patience is. 

Before moving forward, the anchor passage tells us how to love and treat all people that cross our paths. This our outgoing behaviors and do not rely on how they treat us. This is how we as Christians are to treat all people, regardless of how they treat us. So let's all keep that in mind as we move forward. This love is a decision on how we will treat all people and is decision-based, not feelings-based. Let's look at our anchor passage again.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV

[4] Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. [5] It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. [6] Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. See? This is all outflowing action regardless of what the recipient does. Regardless how they treat us. So this love can truly be "unconditional love," because it is not dependent on their response. So let's keep that in mind as we move forward.

Okay, so if love is patient, what is patience?

Defined, patience is the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry. It also involves endurance and forebearance:

Endurance- the fact or power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way.

Forebearance- patient self-control, restraint, and tolerance.

Simply, patience is staying under control while we go through unpleasant things in life. We endure hard or difficult situations or people with self-control and restraint. We don't get angry or fly off the handle when things do not go our way.

So, with patience, we persevere through anything and anyone. If "love is patient," then we decide to stay under control with everyone, no matter who they are or what they do. 

Why do any of this? Why not be ruled by your emotions and feelings? Because as Christians we represent Jesus to those around us. We want them to be saved and go to heaven too. The Holy Spirit inside us will help with all of this. Let's be led by the Holy Spirit and not our emotions and feelings.

Now, let's reference scriptures pertaining to patience.

Job 2:10 NIV

[10] He replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.

Proverbs 14:29-30 NIV

[29] Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly. [30] A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

Proverbs 15:18 NIV

[18] A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.

Proverbs 16:32 NIV

[32] Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.

[8] The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.

Diving Into Love: "Love Is Patient" Part 2

Continuing our learning on how to truly love people, we are still under the first topic in          I. Cor. 13:4-7 which is "Love is patient." We continue on with the subtopic of patience, which is longsuffering, which is showing mercy and forgiveness to everyone. In part one we covered mercy. Now, in part 2, we'll look at all scriptures pertaining to forgiveness.

Look at this example of forgiveness exerted by Joseph. This is what it looks like to forgive someone.

Genesis 50:15-21 NIV

[15] When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?” [16] So they sent word to Joseph, saying, “Your father left these instructions before he died: [17] ‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.’ Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph wept. [18] His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. “We are your slaves,” they said. [19] But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? [20] You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. [21] So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.

Wow!! Awesome example. Ok moving right along.

[11] A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.

[14]  For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. [15] But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

[21] Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” [22] Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. [23]  “Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. [24] As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold was brought to him. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. [31] When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened. [32]  “Then the master called the servant in. ‘You wicked servant,’ he said, ‘I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. [33] Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’ [34] In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed. [35]  “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

Mark 11:25 NIV

[25] And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” 

Luke 6:37-38 NIV

[37]  “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. [38] Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

*This is great because it says whatever you give, it will be given back to you in abundance. 

Luke 17:3-4 NIV

[3] So watch yourselves. “If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. [4] Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”

This next one shows how to forgive within the local church you go to. Build up. Always build up and restore.

2 Corinthians 2:5-8 NIV

[5] If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you to some extent—not to put it too severely. [6] The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient. [7] Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. [8] I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him.

Ephesians 4:32 NIV

[32] Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

So, there we go. When "love is patient," part of that is being longsuffering, which is being merciful and always forgiving people. In part 3, we will learn what patience is and what it looks like in the scriptures.

Diving Into Love: "Love Is Patient." Part 1

 As Christians, Jesus said the most important thing we can do is to love God and love people.

Matthew 22:34-40 NIV

[34] Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. [35] One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: [36] “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” [37] Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ [38] This is the first and greatest commandment. [39] And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ [40] All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Everything else hinges on these two commands. So lets start diving deep into how we go about loving people that are all around us.

This will take quite a few blog entries as the Bible has so much to say about how we love and treat people. We represent Jesus, so we need to learn how to love people. This is a learning process for me too. So, lets learn together as I study. Together we can see what God thinks about the subject and apply it to our lives. 

So, let's begin. The key text by which everything branches out from is I. Corinthians 13:4-7.

That is a quick look at how love treats people. How we are to treat all mankind. 

Today, let's look at patience. Here is the official definition of patience:

Patience-n. the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.

Are you already saying, "Oh crap!!" LOL!

Under the topic of patience, longsuffering is a subtopic. If we are to be patient with people, then we must be longsuffering with people. 

Longsuffering means that we show mercy and forgiveness to all people, no matter who they are or what they do. Let's look at scriptures concerning longsuffering:

Matthew 5:40 NIV

[40] And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.

Luke 17:4 NIV

[4] Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”

Ephesians 4:2 NIV

[2] Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 

Colossians 3:12-13 NIV

[12] Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. [13] Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 

Remember, we are learning how to love and interact with all people. So, within the subtopic of longsuffering, we are going to look at all scripture regarding mercy and forgiveness. Today we'll start with mercy.

Lets look at some examples of mercy.

2 Samuel 19:16-23 NIV

[16] Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite from Bahurim, hurried down with the men of Judah to meet King David. [17] With him were a thousand Benjamites, along with Ziba, the steward of Saul’s household, and his fifteen sons and twenty servants. They rushed to the Jordan, where the king was. [18] They crossed at the ford to take the king’s household over and to do whatever he wished. When Shimei son of Gera crossed the Jordan, he fell prostrate before the king [19] and said to him, “May my lord not hold me guilty. Do not remember how your servant did wrong on the day my lord the king left Jerusalem. May the king put it out of his mind. [20] For I your servant know that I have sinned, but today I have come here as the first from the tribes of Joseph to come down and meet my lord the king.” [21] Then Abishai son of Zeruiah said, “Shouldn’t Shimei be put to death for this? He cursed the Lord’s anointed.” [22] David replied, “What does this have to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? What right do you have to interfere? Should anyone be put to death in Israel today? Don’t I know that today I am king over Israel?” [23] So the king said to Shimei, “You shall not die.” And the king promised him on oath.

2 Samuel 21:7 NIV

[7] The king spared Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the oath before the Lord between David and Jonathan son of Saul. 

1 Kings 2:26 NIV

[26] To Abiathar the priest the king said, “Go back to your fields in Anathoth. You deserve to die, but I will not put you to death now, because you carried the ark of the Sovereign Lord before my father David and shared all my father’s hardships.” 

These are examples of how King David and King Solomon showed mercy to people. Here's 2 more examples:

Jeremiah 38:10 NIV

[10] Then the king commanded Ebed-Melek the Cushite, “Take thirty men from here with you and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies.”

Luke 10:25-37 NIV

[25] On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” [26]  “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” [27] He answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” [28]  “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.” [29] But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” [30] In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. [31] A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. [32] So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. [33] But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. [34] He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. We can see and feel the mercy shown to the people in these passages. Now, let's look at all the scriptures where mercy is commanded:

Exodus 22:25-27 NIV

[25] “If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not treat it like a business deal; charge no interest. [26] If you take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, return it by sunset, [27] because that cloak is the only covering your neighbor has. What else can they sleep in? When they cry out to me, I will hear, for I am compassionate.

Proverbs 3:3 NIV

[3] Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.

Proverbs 11:17 NIV

[17] Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.

Proverbs 14:21 NIV

[21] It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor, but blessed is the one who is kind to the needy.

Proverbs 14:31 NIV

[31] Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.

Proverbs 20:28 NIV

[28] Love and faithfulness keep a king safe; through love his throne is made secure.

Isaiah 16:5a. NIV

[5] In love a throne will be established; in faithfulness a man will sit on it—

[17] But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

So being patient with people we will be longsuffering with them. Being longsuffering with them we will be merciful to them. 

So that's where we begin. Love is patient which is longsuffering, which is merciful to all people.

God shows us mercy everyday. So, let's show mercy to those around us from now on.

The Family of God

There is room for you in the kingdom of God, the family of God. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, made a way for YOU, whoever you are, to be adopted into the family of God.

God made all of us because He wants to adopt us into His family, the Church. He wants a huge family in heaven. Jesus says,"Come!!" Heaven awaits all who would believe in His name. 

Receive him as your Lord and Savior today by believing that He is the Savior of the world. Believing that he died on the cross, shed His blood for you, to take away your sin. Believing that God raised Him from the dead, and He ascended into heaven, and NOW sits at the right hand of God. 

Believe in Jesus Christ right now and you will be born again, by the Holy Spirit, right now, right where you are!! You will be adopted into the family of God, the kingdom of God, the Church. God will give you the GIFT of eternal life by His grace and love for you. You will live in this new family forever. Why? Because God made you to live with Him forever!!

[1] Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 

John 1:12-13 NIV

[12] Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— [13] children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God

John 3:16 NIV

[16] For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 

Believe in God, believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God and you will be born again, you will be saved. You will be adopted into His family by the Holy Spirit. 

Do this!!!

Romans 10:9-13 NIV

[9] If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. [11] As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” [12] For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, [13] for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

And find a church near you and go be baptized!!!

Acts 2:38-39 NIV

[38] Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. [39] The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

No matter who you are, where you come from, or what you have done, God loves you and wants you to live with Him forever. This is made possible only by believing in His Son, Jesus Christ, who is the Savior of the World. The only way to get to God the Father is by believing in Jesus Christ. The only way to live with Him forever is by believing in Jesus Christ.

John 14:6 NIV

[6] Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Come join the family!! Get the free gift of eternal life today. There is room for you in the family. Let God adopt you into the family now. Be born again now! Believe in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ now!!!

Don't Complicate It

Being Christians, we should not make the Christian walk complicated. It is simple. We should teach it in a simple way and live it out in a simple way. Satan tries to make people think it is complicated and hard to live out, and that's because he doesn't want anyone to be saved and added to the kingdom of God. He doesn't want anyone to go to heaven. So he muddies the waters and complicates things. 

We are taught in First John 2:6 to "walk as Jesus did." We represent Jesus now, so we should do what Jesus did. So, what did he do while he was here? He went about doing good. Easy peezy!!

Acts 10:38 NIV

[38] how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

That's what God wants us to do to be like Jesus. Trust Him and do good. Do good and be good. Simple!!! In a nut shell BE GOOD. Pursue goodness in all that we do or say and then we are like Jesus.

Paul said it in Romans 12...

[21] Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Want to change the world around you? Want to be like Jesus? Be good and do good. 

"Trust in God and do good." The Christian life is not hard. It is not complicated. Be and do good just like Jesus did!! And God will use us to impact other people. He will use us so others will be saved too.

Take It All Off!!

Take it all off!! Uh..excuse me? Lol. That's my attention-getting title to get you to open this entry. Lol. Worked right?

Ok let's get going. Jesus actually said something similar when he raised Lazarus from the dead in John 11. This is what I want to focus on.

John 11:44b. NIV

[44] The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. b.)Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”

Jesus said, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go." He is saying the same thing to us, His Church, today. 

He wants us to "take off" whatever once bound us or still binds us in our lives, and be made free to walk in the new life we have in Christ.

As Christians, we are not who we once were. We are "in Christ" now.

Ephesians 1:13a.NIV

[13] And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation...

We are made new in Christ. So, he wants us to live like it.

2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV

[17] Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 

When we were born again by the Holy Spirit, having believed in and received Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we were made "new creations" in Christ.

So, just like Lazarus, we are made new so He wants us to "take off the grave clothes," and walk in newness of life. He does not want anything to bind us in our new life in Christ. So, we have to look at our lives and get rid of anything that prevents us from being totally free in Christ. 

The writer of Hebrews says so in chapter 12.

Hebrews 12:1 NIV

[1] Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

"Get rid of everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles..." See? Our old selves are still tangled up in the grave clothes of the former life we died to when we were born again. 

So, what can stay and what needs to go? What do we need to "take off?" Anything that hinders your walk with Jesus. The Holy Spirit will show you in your spirit. He'll help you.

One thing we can do everyday is in Ephesians. This really spells it out for us:

Ephesians 4:22-24 NIV

[22] You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; [23] to be made new in the attitude of your minds; [24] and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Put off the former way of life, the life you lived before you were born again. Renew your mind everyday as to who you are now, which is a new creation in Christ, a child of God, and live like that. Put on the new self, who you are in Christ now, and peel off all those "grave clothes" of our former lives!! You do that and people won't recognize this new you!! Lol. 

So live in the freedom that Christ provides and 

TAKE IT ALL OFF!! LOL

Why Is There Trouble in the World Today?

The root cause of ALL trouble and sin in the world is selfishness. I know this is a broad statement, but any negative action can be traced back to selfishness every time. 

For example: Some say the love of money causes trouble. Why? Greed. Why are people greedy? Because they want what they don't have. Why? Because they are selfish. 

Use any example and you will see it's origin is rooted in selfishness.

Selfishness is the root cause for any sin, conflict, or offense against another person. Secondary to that you will find pride is the next trait that produces and escalates selfishness into conflict and trouble.

Example: You're in a hurry driving on the interstate. Selfish because you woke up late, so now you're speeding, breaking the law. See? Selfish. Selfish. Then all of the sudden, someone as late as you are cuts in front of you. Pride takes over and says, "No one cuts ME off!" and then your road rage takes over. Then you and the other driver escalate while going down the road, until it culminates into a conflict at the next exit. Then the driver in the other vehicle comes back to your vehicle and punches you and then you call the cops. Then both are cited for some utter nonsense that could have been prevented had you woke up on time. But you were selfish needing just a few more minutes of sleep. See? Just utter lunacy. 

Selfishness first and then pride takes over.

Any crime, injustice, oppression, wars, or world problems start with selfishness on some level. Then escalates because of pride. This is the nature of all sin. Selfishness. 

Any conflict, difficulty, sin, or negative output is caused by selfishness at the root of it. Pride then accompanies it, which further escalates the selfishness.

So what can we do about it?

Love everyone we come in contact with. Love people the way God says to love people.

Romans 13:10 NIV

[10] Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

See? Never do any harm to anyone. No matter what. Cut and dry.

This eliminates selfishness, and takes pride out of the equation also. If we never did harm to anyone EVER, then the world situation would de-escalate itself.

Make the world a better place? How? 

Love does no harm to anyone at any time.

No selfishness, no pride.

Let's make the world a better place. How? Take selfishness, selfish motivation, and pride out of your life today. Love everyone you encounter.

Comfort Today!!

With all that is going on around us, as Christians, are we worried or scared? Do not worry and do not be afraid. 

God loves us and He is right in the middle of our lives. He watches us and He protects us, despite what is going on all around us. Let these passages renew your mind and give you peace:

There is so much in these two passages. God is sovereign. He is in control. He is our Heavenly Father. Claim these promises for your life. Trust Him at His word. He is always faithful to all of His children, which is who we are. 

Being in Christ forever, we overcome the things of this world. Thank you God the Father through our Lord Jesus Christ!!
