Deny Yourself?

Jesus said, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me." Matthew 16:24 KJV

Well, what in the world does THAT mean? You might be asking yourself.

Simply, don't be selfish. In everything you do, say, or think, don't live a self-centered life. Don't be the center of your own universe. Make Jesus Christ the focal point of your life.

Our society's cultural pattern is very self-centered, self-sufficent, self-reliant. It praises and applaudes all forms of selfishness. Again, like in my last post, it says in Romans 12:2 "do not conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." So don't accept how everyone else thinks, which is a selfish mindset.

Then you can follow Him, follow His ways, follow His way of interacting with the world around you.

Selfishness is the origin of every sin and everything that is wrong in this fallen, broken world. Think about that for a minute. Any sin, any injustice, or anything else you can think of originates there every single time, no matter what it is.

So, Jesus tells us we can't be selfish and follow Him too. He's the only one to follow to have a happy, fulfilling life. He knows what works and what doesn't. He knows being selfish takes us down a road we don't want to go on. Deny yourself? Let's do it!!!
