Several times throughout any given day, we all have the opportunity to judge other people. Take any situation in your life and you can always find things to give your opinion about. Reviews online, all of social media, the news, the mass media all thrive on passing judgement on people or on what they do.
How can we as Christians "let our light so shine before men?" How can we make a positive impact on the world around us everyday? DO NOT JUDGE OTHER PEOPLE. NO MATTER WHAT.
Jesus said this on the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 7:1 NIV "Do not judge or you too will be judged."
He also said to those fellows that brought an adulterous woman to Jesus to stone her to death, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. "
John 8:2-7 NKJV
[2] Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. [3] Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, [4] they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. [5] Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” [6] This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. [7] So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”
So, why shouldn't we judge others?
First, we all have sin in our lives and no one is perfect.
Romans 3:23 NKJV
[23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Next, this defeats the purpose of the Church, which is to love all people. (Remember, the whole point is for everyone to be saved. This can't happen when we stand in judgement over people.)
John 13:34-35 NKJV
[34] A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. [35] By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
There is not an ounce of love in the action of judging someone else. It is also selfish, full of pride, conceited, and arrogant to act like you have the right to pass judgement on someone. As Jesus told those guys in the aforementioned passage, they couldn't judge that lady and stone her because they were full of sin too.
It also puts negative things in your spirit like bitterness and it says in Hebrews "let no root of bitterness spring up in you thereby defiling many."
Hebrews 12:15 NIV [15] See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
What can we do then? Mind our own business and give everyone the same love, the same mercy, and the same grace that God has given and continues to give to us everyday.
Why? Because "Love never fails." I. Cor. 13:8 and "Love does no harm to its neighbor (fellowman)," Rom. 13:10. Judging others harms others. We don't want that. We want everyone to be saved.
Don't justify it or rationalize it away. Jesus said don't do it! Plain and simple.
