Studying the gospels, when Jesus was tempted in the wilderness by the devil, I ran across the first temptation of Jesus. Here it is:
Matthew 4:1-4 NIV
[1] Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. [2] After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. [3] The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” [4] Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’"
Jesus stated a truth here, that I find to be so awesome in my everyday life. He said:
4] Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’"
What did He mean? Well just like the physical body has to be fed everyday, our spirit needs to be fed everyday too.
Simply? Feed your spirit everyday with the Word of God.
This is part of constantly renewing your mind daily as Romans 12:2 teaches.
Simply? Read your Bible everyday. Digest, meditate, study God's Word everyday. Have it in your life everyday. How much? Who knows? How long? You decide. The more you use God's Word, the more you will come to rely on it. The more you put the Word of God in front of you, the more it will transform your life.
I find this to be true. I cannot begin to explain how the Holy Spirit truly teaches us all things, but He truly does as I read the Word daily.
So give it a try. However you like. Feed your spirit, renew your mind everyday by reading the Bible. God will show you something everytime.
We truly cannot live on food alone. We need the Word of God too!!
So I encourage you to adopt this practice in your life. Open your Bible everyday and use it!! It will become life to you!!
