What's It All About?

Everywhere the world over, people eventually get around to this question, "Why am I here?" Throughout the ages, people always seem to ask this question.

Think about it. When you look up into a clear night sky and see the vastness of space with its stars that are like the sand on a seashore, far too numerous to count, why are we sitting here 70 or 80 years, floating around out in the middle of nowhere, on this little, blue planet? Why are we here?

We are born onto this planet, by God and for God. God created us in our mother's womb, and she gave birth to us, and now here we are.

King David, inspired by the Holy Spirit, said it this way:

Psalms 139:13-16 NIV

[13] For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. [14] I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. [15] My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. [16] Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Within the whole of everyone who has ever been born on this planet, no one was ever an "accident." You are not an accident. You were purposefully and intentionally made by God to live on this planet. Isn't that great? You should never feel bad about yourself ever again!! You are a blessing, you are a treasure, intentionally made by God. We all are!!!

You might say, "Jeff that is so cool, but that still doesn't answer 'why?'" "Why am I here?"

The apostle Paul gives us the answer when he gave a great speech to the dignitaries in Athens, Greece. Here it is:

Acts 17:26-27 NIV

[26] From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. [27] God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.

God made us to "seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him, and find Him..." There it is. The answer.

"Why am I here?" To seek God. To reach out for God. To find God.

He loves you so much for all eternity:

Jeremiah 31:3b. NIV

[3]... “I have loved you with an everlasting love,..."

He wants you to live with Him forever, by making a way for us to do so through His Son, Jesus Christ:

John 3:16-17 NIV

[16] For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

So, not only were we created by God to discover who He is, but we were made by God to live with Him forever. We are eternal beings. We were made in the "image of God." We were made with an eternal soul/spirit just like God. He gave us the capacity to live with Him forever.

Genesis 1:26-27 NIV

[26] Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” [27] So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

So, now we can live with God forever in His eternal family. How? By simply believing in His Son, Jesus Christ. That's the gospel. The good news of Jesus Christ.

Jesus died, shed His blood on the cross to take sin out of the way. Sin separated us from God the Father. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, made a way for us to have access to the Father again. By believing in Jesus Christ, we have access to God, we are born again, we are adopted into God's family; the kingdom of God, and we receive God's GIFT of eternal life.

So why are we here on this little planet floating out in the middle of nowhere? To find God the Father, believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can receive the GIFT of eternal life, and live with God forever in His family!!! That makes sense in the grand scheme of the universe. THAT'S why we are here!! That's good news!! That's the gospel of Jesus Christ!!
