Let Your Light Shine?

Matthew 5:16 NIV

[16] In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Being the Church, we are "ambassadors for Jesus," we represent Jesus wherever we go and with whatever we do. Why? So that others might believe in Jesus and be saved.

That's the whole point of the Church. God uses our "fruit" that Jesus (the Vine) produces in us by the Holy Spirit which draws people to Himself and then they can be saved too.

So what does letting your light shine mean?

We let "our light shine" by loving all people the way God loves us. Loving all people with God's love "that is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit."

Romans 5:5 NIV

[5] And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

It means loving all people by doing good deeds for them. Love is action. We become "servants" like Jesus did. We become available. We help and do whatever we can. We become selfless not selfish. In a self-centered world, we shine our light into the world when we are not solely focused on ourselves but live to be there for others.

Anyone in the Church can do this because we are always around people.

When we really serve and help people by our words and actions in a selfless manner, then they will glorify or thank God for it. They will know God exists and that He loves them because we really love and care for them.

So let's make it our daily ambition to lay down our lives for other people like Jesus did. Be available. Be ready to talk, to pray, to be a friend, to be the one who listens, to be the one who helps however we can. Live to serve others as we tend to our own affairs. By our "good deeds," they will glorify or thank God which is in heaven.

Our love and good deeds will open the door for God to save them like He saved us. "Love never fails."

Love you all,

Jeffrey Post
