Do You Believe This?

Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3 what to do to enter the Kingdom of God.

John 3:1-8 NIV

[1] Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. [2] He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” [3] Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” [4] “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” [5] Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. [6] Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. [7] You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ [8] The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

He said we must be "born again, born of the Spirit" which is being born again by the Holy Spirit.

How does that happen?

1 John 5:1a. NIV

[1] Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God,...

When we receive Jesus into our lives by believing in His name, we are "born again" by the Holy Spirit.

John 1:12-13 NIV[12] Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— [13] children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

When we believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, then the Holy Spirit gives us new birth and we are then "born of God.

He was crucified on a cross, laid down his life freely, shed his blood on the cross to take the punishment for all mankind's sin. He took on himself the sins of all humanity so that we could enter the Kingdom of God and be adopted into the eternal family of God. God loved humanity so much, that He made a way for us to be with Him forever by what Jesus did.

John 3:16 NIV [16] For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Here is the crucifixion:

John 19:16-30 NIV

[16] Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified.  So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. [17] Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). [18] There they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle. [19] Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: jesus of nazareth, the king of the jews. [20] Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. [21] The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.” [22] Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.” [23] When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. [24] “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.” This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said, “They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.” So this is what the soldiers did. [25] Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. [26] When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” [27] and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.  [28] Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” [29] A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. [30] When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

He died and was buried in a tomb 3 days, and then by the power of the Holy Spirit, God raised him from the dead. Here it is:

John 20:1-31 NIV

[1] Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. [2] So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” [3] So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. [4] Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. [5] He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. [6] Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, [7] as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. [8] Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. [9] (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) [10] Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.  [11] Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb [12] and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. [13] They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” [14] At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. [15] He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” [16] Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”). [17] Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ” [18] Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.  [19] On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” [20] After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. [21] Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” [22] And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. [23] If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”  [24] Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. [25] So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” [26] A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” [27] Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” [28] Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” [29] Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”  [30] Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. [31] But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Then Jesus ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of God. He is alive and well today and has all power and authority over all things in the seen and unseen realms. He is Lord of heaven and earth as it pleased the Father to give Him this power. Here is the ascension and the power Jesus Christ has now:

Acts 1:1-11 NIV

[1] In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach [2] until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. [3] After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. [4] On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. [5] For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” [6] Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” [7] He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. [8] But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” [9] After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. [10] They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. [11] “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Colossians 1:15-20 NIV

[15] The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. [16] For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. [17] He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. [18] And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. [19] For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, [20] and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

So how can we be born again and added to the Kingdom of God forever? By believing God is real and that He exists. (Hebrews 11:6) By believing in His one and only Son Jesus Christ and that Jesus died to take away the sins of the world, to save us, to give us eternal life (John 3:16), and that God raised Him from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit.

If you believe this with all of your heart you can be saved!

What's Most Important?

As Christians, why did God leave us here once we became Christians? Why not take us to heaven right then and there? Because each and every believer has a purpose here on earth to advance the Kingdom of God. God uses us so that other people can be saved too. How can they be saved? When God draws them to Himself by the work of the Holy Spirit.

So what's our part to play? God gives everyone gifts and talents to use out in the world.

Romans 12:4-8 NIV

[4] For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, [5] so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. [6] We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; [7] if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; [8] if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

The Church is used out in the world, using their individual gifts and talents to do "good works" which "God prepared in advance for us to do."

Ephesians 2:10 NIV [10] For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

When we do good works for whoever comes into our lives, it proves God exists and that He loves them. We all know that "God wishes that none should perish but that all would come to repentance." He wants everyone to be saved.

How can they be saved if they do not hear the good news about Jesus Christ the Son of God? How can they believe and be saved?

Romans 10:14-15 NIV [14] How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? [15] And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

It says "faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God."

They develop faith by hearing the Word of God. The Gospel of Jesus Christ. How can they get to that point where they can hear, believe in Jesus, and be saved?

MOST IMPORTANT: It all starts with you and me my friends. The process begins with us by our good works.

An act of kindness. Befriending a person. Being patient. Giving help in time of need. Showing love and mercy to someone. Treating people the same no matter who they are. These are all examples of "good deeds" that are done through us.

I John 3:18 NKJV [18] My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

We show people the love of God NOT just by talking to them, but by our actions, by our good deeds.

When we love people with our actions, then we show them the love of God that is "shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit inside us."

This opens the door for God to work in their lives and save them like He saved us.

It all starts with us Church. It all starts with loving people and showing them we love them by our actions/good deeds. This opens the door for people to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why? Because "love never fails." (I. Cor. 13:8)

How to Fight

The troubles we face sometimes comes in our minds. If we are passive then the devil can have a field day with us. I learned a great process for making thoughts "obedient to Christ."

The main deterrent is knowing the Word of God and trusting God at His Word. We have to use the Word when under attack. Allow the Holy Spirit to bring it into our thoughts as "He teaches us all things."

-Even now, the devil tries to confuse my thoughts. But the Holy Spirit inside me is greater than him.

I John 4:4 NKJV [4] You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

-Also, God is not the author of confused, busy thoughts but of peace. So remember that too.

I Corinthians 14:33a NKJV [33] For God is not the  author of confusion but of peace,...

-Dr. Charles Stanley showed me how to scrutinze my thoughts, how to think about what I am thinking. Write these questions down and use them in a journal.

Write down a thought then analyze with these questions:

1. Where will these thoughts lead me?

2. Will these thoughts get me where I want to go?

3. Are these thoughts scripturally acceptable?

4. Will these thoughts build me up or tear me down?

5. Could I share these thoughts with others?

6. Where did these thoughts originate?

7. Do I feel guilty thinking these thoughts?

8. Do these thoughts fit who I am as a Christian?

Now, use these when the fight comes.

Rely on the Holy Spirit inside you to recall scriptures when needed. He brings them to your mind so you can fight. YouVersion app is great for this. Look up scripture He gives you by typing into search bar and it will bring it up. Then speak it out loud to fight. Just like Jesus did.

For example: a thought: "I am all alone and nobody loves me." WRONG THOUGHT. Fight!!!

"God has said I will never leave you nor forsake you." Hebrews 13:5

Paraphrase, "nothing will ever separate me from God's love."

Romans 8:38-39 NIV [38] For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, [39] neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

So you are NOT alone, God is with you. The Holy Spirit is inside you, and is your Helper, and is more powerful than the devil. (Jn.14:16, Acts 2:38, I. Jn. 4:4b.) He helps us.

You are loved. God will never stop loving you.

Then answer those questions above in your journal.

This will snap you out of wrong thoughts that Satan is trying to push into your mind.

Keeping a journal will allow you to see what the devil has been trying to get you to think about.

God is with us, loves us, the Holy Spirit and all His power is inside us, and "we have the mind of Christ." (I. Cor. 2:16b.) So we have hope!!

Never Give Up

We all face things in life. In the movie "Captain Ron," the crew run into a storm at sea. Captain Ron says,"It's just little squall. They come on you fast and they leave you fast." Some things in life are like that. They come on us fast and they leave us fast. Other things linger and can last longer than we expected. In those times of lingering stuff we have to know and remember where our help comes from.

God will "never leave us or forsake us." (Heb.13:5)

Psalms 34 is a great chapter to read to build our trust in God during these times:

Psalms 34:1-22 NIV

[1] I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. [2] I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. [3] Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together. [4] I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. [5] Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. [6] This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. [7] The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. [8] Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. [9] Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. [10] The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. [11] Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. [12] Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, [13] keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. [14] Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. [15] The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry; [16] but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth. [17] The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. [18] The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. [19] The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; [20] he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. [21] Evil will slay the wicked; the foes of the righteous will be condemned. [22] The Lord will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.

This is amazing. He provides everything for us, His children. We don't have to worry or be afraid when these things come along. Our Heavenly Father will take care of it. We just have to believe help is on the way. We just have to trust God, which is having faith.

After Jesus' transfiguration, he spoke to a man who needed his son to be healed and said:

Mark 9:23b NIV

[23]...“Everything is possible for one who believes."

Whatever we face. Never give up. Pray and believe.

Pray and cry out to the Father in faith and believe He will do it and He will. He is always faithful to us. Whatever we need, He will do it.

Never give up. Watch God deliver you from all your troubles.

How to Treat People

In today's world, many people are all freaked out with everything going on. Despite the world, as Christians, we should treat people the way Jesus wants us to.

Matthew 7:12 NIV

[12] So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Some have grown up knowing this as "the Golden Rule."

Simply? Treat people the way that you would want them to treat you.

Impulsiveness, getting angry easy, having no patience, a lack of empathy, being short or rude with people, all counteracts this principle Jesus is teaching us here.

How can we "love our neighbor as ourself" if we don't focus on this principle?

So real simple today. Decide how you want to be treated and then make a conscious effort to treat everyone that way.

Give out what you want to receive.

Luke 6:38 NIV

[38] Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

The Foundation

 Luke 9:23 NKJV

[23] Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

This is the foundation that distinguishes Christians from the worldly system. That we "deny self" by taking up our "cross," which is dying to a selfish lifestyle in order that we can love and help those around us. That's "losing our lives" to find real life. Life for Jesus' sake or purpose.

Luke 9:24 NKJV

[24] For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.

The world is lovers of self and there is no doubt that we are in that time now.

II Timothy 3:1-4 NKJV [1] But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: [2] For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, [3] unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, [4] traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

That's why Paul said, "do not conform to the pattern of this world" Romans 12:2. Cause their pattern is pure selfishness. Me, me, me!

We were saved, to not only receive eternal life, but to spread God's love around the world as "it is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit," so others would be drawn to God and be saved too.

Romans 5:5 NIV

[5] And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

This is how we can obey Jesus' new command and the way the world around us will know that God exists...by love and good deeds.

John 13:34-35 NKJV

[34] A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  [35] By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

We were saved by His grace to do the good works He prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:8-10 NKJV [8] For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, [9] not of works, lest anyone should boast. [10] For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Why? So they would see our good works and glorify the Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16 NKJV

[16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Why? So they can know God exists and that He loves them and sent Jesus to save them and wants to give them eternal life.

John 3:16 NKJV [16] For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

That's why the whole Bible is summed up in a single command, "Love your neighbor as yourself."

Romans 13:9 NIV

[9] The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Because that's a way they will know He exists and that He loves them, through our love and good deeds.

So back to the foundation of the matter, we "deny self" refuse to live a selfish lifestyle to follow Jesus and "walk as Jesus did." He came to "seek and save the lost." That's our main purpose on earth too.

How is it accomplished through us, the Church?

God works through our love for all people and the good deeds we do for other people.

So, the foundation to follow Jesus? Get every hint of selfishness out of our lives and live for other people. So, they will see our love and good deeds and be saved too. Time is short. No more selfish lifestyle. So cool. What a revelation! The Holy Spirit will help us walk this out as we follow Jesus.

Overwhelmed?

Here is a passage talking about my reason for this blog post:

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV

[3] Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, [4] who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

What do we do when everything is thrown at us all at once? When we face things in our daily life that seem to overtake us and overwhelm us? I have found this can induce a panic attack. What can we do?

First, recognize it for what it is, a panic attack. Realize the adrenaline released in your system has to have time to wear off and go away. So you'll feel anxious and on edge for a few hours. Just like anything else we face, it will eventually go away.

In the meantime, pray and ask God to see you through it. I had to do this tonight while at work and some 3 1/2 hrs. later, my physical body is returning back to normal. Being busier than usual, it came on me without warning and it hit hard. So I had no choice but to ride it out.

So, things come at us sometimes and is just a part of life. "It rains on the just and the unjust." Things just happen sometimes. So nothing to feel bad about. We just have to depend on God then. Cry out in prayer for God to deliver us from it and ride it out.

I confess this to you now for help. It says:

James 5:16 KJV [16] Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

So pray for me not to have panic attacks anymore and I will pray for you. We all need to pray for each other as we confess our faults to each other. This is how we are healed. So pray for me and I'll pray for you.

So, we "keep on marching" one day at a time. We "bear one another's burdens", and keep on praying constantly for each other.

Email me about anything and I'll pray for you and then hopefully you can pray for me.

Let's all help each other in prayer by confessing our faults to each other, so we can be healed.

Because Jesus has His work to do through us, so others can be saved too. Always so others can be saved too.

Hope to hear from you.

"Fight the good fight of faith."

"No weapon formed against you will prosper."

Keep On Keepin' On

I want to encourage you today, despite whatever you're going through or facing, to keep on going. Keep on keepin' on.

God is with us and will "never leave us or forsake us," and always knows and cares what we are individually going through.

Hebrews 13:5b. NIV

[5b.]... because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.

No matter what comes in our lives, we can trust God to always be there for us. He will "rescue us, protect us, and be with us in trouble."

Psalms 91:14-16 NIV

[14] “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. [15] He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. [16] With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

He watches each of our individual "comings and goings."

Psalms 121:7-8 NIV

[7] The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; [8] the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

He cares for us.

1 Peter 5:7 NIV

[7] Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

By our faith and trust in Him, we are shielded by God's power until we receive our inheritance in heaven, and we are receiving the end result of our faith, the salvation of our souls.

1 Peter 1:3-9 NIV

[3] Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, [4] and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, [5] who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

[6] In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. [7] These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. [8] Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, [9] for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

No matter what happens, He will protect us from the devil.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 NIV

[3] But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

He is always on our side, always for us, and nothing will separate us from His love.

Romans 8:31-39 NIV

[31] What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? [32] He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? [33] Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. [34] Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. [35] Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? [36] As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” [37] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. [38] For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, [39] neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Remember that ALL Christians are enduring the same kinds of sufferings in the world. We're all in this together:

1 Peter 5:6-9 NIV [6] Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. [7] Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. [8] Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. [9] Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

So, whatever life or people or circumstances throws at us, we are God's children and He will protect and take care of us as we trust in Him. So keep on keepin' on my friends. God is with us!

Use the Word

Ephesians 6:12 NIV [12] For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

As Christians, we have a daily struggle against the invisible realm of darkness that we cannot see. We struggle against them as they plant thoughts "fiery darts" into our minds everyday. How do you fight against someone you can't see and who sneaks around in the recesses of our mind?

It's bad enough that we fight against our old human nature. It's bad enough we have to not conform to the world around us or how the rest of the world does things. But we wrestle against the unseen realm too? Crazy stuff. Satan and his bunch want to destroy us, but despite them we have hope. We have hope because the Holy Spirit of God resides within us and He is greater than Satan in everyway.

1 John 4:4 NIV [4] You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

We don't have to worry or be afraid, we have to trust God to deliver us. We use the Word of God to fight those forces like Jesus did.

Matthew 4:1-11 NIV

[1] Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. [2] After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. [3] The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” [4] Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” [5] Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. [6] “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” [7] Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” [8] Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. [9] “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” [10] Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” [11] Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Every time Satan tempted our Lord Jesus, Jesus counter-attacked with the Word of God. The second temptation, Satan even used scripture to attack quoting Psalms 91:11. Again, Jesus counter-attacked with the Word of God. Every time he was tempted Jesus used the Word of God and that's what we must do too, which means you have to study the Word of God daily. It has to be engrained in your mind to bring up at a moments notice.

However, don't freak out, the Holy Spirit "teaches us all things" and He will help you do this.

"The Sword of the Spirit," which is the Bible, is what we use to repel the enemy in our minds. So, we have to study it and know it. There is no way around it.

For example, Satan tries to say you're going crazy. You have to say the truth right then.

II Timothy 1:7 NKJV [7] For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Or you'll always be sick.

Psalms 103:2-3 NIV [2] Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— [3] who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,

This is just two examples of how he can mess with you. See how those two passages tell the truth? That's how we fight.

Another way to fight in our minds is knowing Satan is a liar. He never tells the truth. So when you are under attack, just know they're all lies. This is a great place to start.

John 8:44 NIrV [44] You belong to your father, the devil. You want to obey your father’s wishes. From the beginning, the devil was a murderer. He has never obeyed the truth. There is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his natural language. He does this because he is a liar. He is the father of lies.

Every time something comes up, say, "He's a liar, so that's not true."

However, again, there is just no substitute for learning, knowing, and using God's Word. I can't emphasize this enough.

A great tool to help is the "YouVersion" app. It has a "discover" tab. Whatever you face, plug into the search bar and search. It will bring up passages for that subject.

"Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free!!!" in every attack we face.

Study the Word everyday, use the Word!

Don't Be Afraid to Give

Luke 6:38 NIV [38] Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

People in the Church automatically associate giving with money. Not so today. I want to focus on everything BUT money.

Giving is awesome and the aforementioned passage Jesus tells us that however we give it will be given back to us "pressed down, shaken together, and running over." Well, what does that mean? It means that we'll get back much more than what we gave.

So if you want or need something, GIVE it away, and that's what you'll get back in abundance.

Do you need love? Give love.

Do you need friends? Be a friend.

Do you need kindness? Be kind.

Do you need acceptance? Then be accepting.

Do you need peace? Then be peaceful.

Do you need happiness? Then be happy with others.

Whatever you give to others, it will come back in abundance to you.

Be careful though because the same can be said of bad stuff too such as anger, hate, impatience, unkindness, negativity, and so forth and so on.

Give all the good stuff in love to others and it'll come back to us "pressed down, shaken together, and running over."

Don't be afraid to give.

Be At Peace

In today's world, people are worried, fearful, anxious, and a host of other things that grind away at their souls and health. There is such an influx of information coming at us from every direction that people are just stressed out. Everyone has concerns about every conceivable subject and stress rules the world. Take a breath. It will be okay.

As Christians, God tells us to trust Him and be at peace. This will help nourish our souls and our health. This will heal our bodies and minds.

Whenever something comes along just say,"It doesn't matter, God is with me." Pray and give it to God.

Also, here is a wealth of scripture to refer to that will help keep us calm and at peace:

Psalms 46:10a. NIV [10a.] He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

Proverbs 14:30a. NIV [30a.] A heart at peace gives life to the body,

1 Peter 5:7 NIV [7] Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Philippians 4:6-7 NIV [6] Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. [7] And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Joshua 1:9 NIV [9] Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

John 14:27 NIV [27] Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

2 Timothy 1:7 NIV [7] For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Proverbs 12:25 NIV [25] Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.

Ecclesiastes 11:10a. NIV [10a.] So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, ...

Isaiah 41:10 NIV [10] So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Psalms 55:22 NIV [22] Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

Psalms 94:18-19 NIV [18] When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, Lord, supported me. [19] When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.

Psalms 34:4 NIV [4] I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

Proverbs 3:5 NIV [5] Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

Psalms 56:3-4a NIV [3] When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. [4] In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid...

Matthew 11:28 NIV [28]  “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Isaiah 26:3-4 NIV [3] You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. [4] Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.

Psalms 23:4 NIV [4] Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

John 16:33 NIV [33]  “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

1 Peter 5:10 NIV [10] And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Refer to these often. Memorize them. Then use them. When under attack, do like Jesus did when Satan tempted Him in the wilderness. He quoted scripture. If that doesn't work, then say...

"It doesn't matter. God is with me." Pray and give it to God.

I hope this helps.

K.I.S.S. IT!!

The preacher who mentored me back in the late 80s, the late Carroll Sites, told me, "When in doubt just kiss it." I asked, "What does that mean?" And he said, "Just keep it simple stupid." We both had a great laugh out of that, but I always remembered it. That's what I'll do now.

It says in Hebrews 12:2 to "fix our eyes on Jesus," or "keep our eyes on Jesus" everyday.

Well, what does that mean? Simply? As Christians we are supposed to "walk as Jesus did" or "live as Jesus did."(I. Jn. 2:3-6):

1 John 2:3-6 NIV

[3] We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. [4] Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. [5] But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: [6] Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

Ok, then how did He walk or live? He walked in love for all people and lived to serve other people. He denied self and lived to love and help people.

So, as Christians, we "keep our eyes on Jesus" when we "walk as Jesus did" which is laying down our lives for people and loving and serving them which is keeping His commands. So awesome!!

John 13:34-35 NIV

[34]  “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. [35] By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

The old phrase from the early 90s that a lot of people made fun of is really a great gauge for our lives in the context of this message. The phrase is:

"What would Jesus do?"

In order to keep our eyes on Jesus, to walk as Jesus did, just ask that in any given situation. "What would Jesus do?"

Keep it simple stupid. 😝

So cool!!

Light Shining Is Love

Reference passages:
Matthew 5:16 NIV
[16] In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Ephesians 2:10 NIV
[10] For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Matthew 6:19-21 NIV
[19]  “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. [20] But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. [21] For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

How do we "let our light shine before men?" What does it mean?
It means loving all mankind equally no matter what.

Love is having already decided in advance how we will treat everyone who crosses our path, no matter what. (Note: This love is not always laced with emotions or feelings though it can be.)
Treating everyone as I.Corinthians 13:4-8 tells us to:

1 Corinthians 13:4-8a. NIrV
[4] Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others. It does not brag. It is not proud. [5] It does not dishonor other people. It does not look out for its own interests. It does not easily become angry. It does not keep track of other people’s wrongs. [6] Love is not happy with evil. But it is full of joy when the truth is spoken. [7] It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up. [8a.] Love never fails.

To keep it simple look at Romans 13:10a....

Romans 13:10a. NIV
[10] Love does no harm to a neighbor...

We decide in advance not to harm or bring harm on our fellowman in any way at any time.

Easier said than done? Yes within ourselves, but not with God.

Matthew 19:26b. NIV
[26b.]...but with God all things are possible.

Being led by the Holy Spirit, we can love this way.
THIS is letting our "light shine."

We lay down our lives for people in love just as Jesus did.
We are like doctors who are on-call, ready to help at a moments notice, anytime day or night. We help with anything in any way.

1 John 3:16-18 NIV
[16] This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. [17] If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? [18] Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

When we show them we love and care for them by what we do, THEN they will "glorify the Father in heaven." These will be those "good works God prepared in advance for us to do." This is how we "store up treasures in heaven."

So, let's let our lights shine by loving all people like Jesus did no matter what!!

John 13:34-35 NIV
[34]  “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. [35] By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Why do this? So they can be saved too!!

Come Out of Hiding Part 2

Continuation of notes the Spirit gave me for Christians:

Do not live in isolation. Get connected to people who love and walk with Jesus too. Get around people who are honest, open, and transparent about who they are and are not afraid to show you the real them.

Find people you can physically interact with and go through life with. People who will build you up and who you can build up. People you can pray with and pray for. People to walk through all the ups and downs of life with.

Build real friendships, real relationships. Avoid fake, superficial relationships at all costs.

Come Out of Hiding

Romans 2:21a.NIV

[21a.] you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself?

As I teach you guys, I always teach myself, and this one is for ALL of us.

Since 2020, Satan has had a field day with the Church. With the invention of social media, messaging, cell phones, "Facetime," and the various other ways people interact digitally, he has made it so easy for us to live in isolation.

Also, with the invention of "megachurches" and multiple campuses, and multiple services, people can slip in and out of church service undetected, unknown, unseen, and most importantly, unloved. Even with the invention of "e-groups" or "group studies" one can be isolated. People don't have to let others in their lives at all if they don't want to. Satan loves it.

One can be in an arena full of people and still be all alone at the end of the day, and that's how Satan wants it. Attack is so much easier, bondage and slavery in sin is so much easier when one is all alone.

What's even worse is that Satan can deceive folks into thinking they are not alone because they have all these "friends" or "followers" on social media. They text, direct message, or facetime people and sit alone in an empty house and think they are living rich, full lives. See how he deceives?

We are made for community. We are made to make friends. We are made to share life with other people. However, sadly, a lot of times, this is the preferred way of interacting with people. Why so? This comes as a result of another one of Satan's schemes, which is keeping everyone so BUSY in life. People are so busy that a quick text or call is all they have time for.

Out of all creation God made, there was only one thing He saw as "not good." He called everything good except this one thing.

Genesis 2:18a. NIV

[18a.] The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone...”

It is not good for us to be alone and yet we've been deceived to think that interacting on a cell phone or on a social media platform is the way to go. As if hiding behind a computer or cell phone screen is good for us. Sure, people can protect themselves this way. They don't have to be vulnerable. They can hide their feelings this way. It's quick and easy. You're in and out and back to your life.

God physically made Eve for Adam to have in his life. He made them for real relationship. Real physical interaction. He knows we need real in-person relationships in our lives. We need in-person relationships in the Church, in our families, in our workspaces, in our communities.

We need each other in real-time, in-person, especially as Christians. We need each other all "knee-deep" up in each other's lives, not just on Sunday. Many people don't want that. They want to stay at "arms-length," just like their digital relationships. They don't see the need for REAL relationships.

Christians REALLY need in-person relationships for love, for strength, for growing, for maturing, for support, for healing, for help. So why not go after real relationships? People have fear that's why. The very thing that should push people together, to face life together, pushes them apart.

That's why there is so much fake crap in the Church. Fear. Fear of rejection.

We need the "Real Thang" baby like Coca-Cola. 😝Real in-person relationships.

-So we can be healed and strengthened by each other.

James 5:16 NIV [16] Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

-So we can bear one another's burdens and forgive each other.

Galatians 6:2 NIV [2] Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Colossians 3:13 NIV [13] Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

-So we can love and be loved.

Romans 12:9 NIV [9] Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

-So we can be devoted to each other.

Romans 12:10 NIV[10] Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

-So we can help those around us.

Romans 12:13 NIV [13] Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

-So we can share life together.

Romans 12:15 NIV [15] Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

-So we can live in harmony and love everyone.

Romans 12:16 NIV [16] Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

-So we can live in peace with all people.

Romans 12:18 NIV [18] If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

There are so many other benefits for having real in-person relationships that I can't list now.

We have to stop being afraid, stop hiding behind digital communicating, and build real in-person relationships.

We need people and they need us!

Come out of hiding!!

A Harvest Is Coming

One immutable fact in life is that we always "reap what we sow."

Galatians 6:7-8 NKJV [7] Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. [8] For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.

Actions produce results or consequences whether it be sowing good things in our lives or bad things. When we sow whatever into our lives, we always have some result or harvest from it. Action=Reaction.

God emphasizes in the aforementioned passage to pursue the things of the Holy Spirit as He guides us, and not things within our own human sinful nature. Because there is no way around it, we will reap what we sow.

So, simply? Pursue good things not bad things, because a harvest is coming no matter what.

Do we always do this? Nope. That's why our lives have all the ups and downs, because we're receiving a harvest from our decisions, which teeter back and forth from what we want to what the Holy Spirit wants.

So that's why the writer of Hebrews wrote this:

Hebrews 12:1-2a NIV

[1] Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, [2a] fixing our eyes on Jesus...

And why Jesus said, "if a man would come after me, let him deny himself daily, take up his cross and follow me." Luke 9:23. I can almost guarantee "the cross" He was talking about was our human sinful nature.

So we get rid of anything that hinders us from being led by the Holy Spirit, and sin we can get mixed up in. We "deny self," our human sinful nature, and allow ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit instead.

Why? Because God knows a harvest is coming from whatever we choose in life, and He loves us and wants only what is best for us in this life.

Deuteronomy 30:19b NKJV [19b]...that  I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

So, choose the life of being led by the Holy Spirit, who inside us, and not by our human sinful nature.

Why?

Because either way...a harvest is coming!

What's the Answer?

Jesus said why people don't want to come to Him to have eternal life. Because their deeds were evil. Fear of being exposed prevents them from coming to Him.

John 3:16-21 NIV

[16] For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. [18] Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. [19] This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. [20] Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.

Several times in the past we've heard this, "I'll come when I get my life straightened out." Or "I can't go to church, my life is too messed up." They are afraid that everyone will find out about their lives or that God might reject them, or think He already does, like when they say, "God could never love me." Or "He'll never love me after all I've done."

See? [20] Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.

Fear is the moving force in people's lives.

So, what's the answer?

Don't be afraid my friend. Come to God. Believe in the only begotten Son of God so that you can be saved.

God loves you. He made you and wants you to live with Him forever!!

John 3:16-17 NIV [16] For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Forget the past. It doesn't matter where you are or what you've done. Don't stay where you are. Come to Jesus Christ!!

Temptation is Cyclical

Temptation is cyclical. I have learned this over the years and maybe you have too. Whatever I have been tempted with, always comes back around at sometime in the future. We all get slapped around by the dark forces time and time again with the same things.

What's the point? Despite the neverending and reoccurring temptations we face, we still trust in God. We still have hope.

-He is with us through it all!!

Hebrews 13:5b. NIV[5b.]... because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

-The Holy Spirit is inside us and is greater than the devil.

1 John 4:4 NIV [4] You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

-God causes all things to work together for our good. It might not be good or feel good, but God will achieve a good outcome from it.

Romans 8:28 NIV[28] And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

-God always makes a way of escape.

1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV [13] No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

-Afterwards, God Himself will restore us and strengthen us.

1 Peter 5:10 NIV [10] And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

-So never tire in doing good, in submitting to God,  in resisting temptation that is from the devil, no matter how many times you are tempted with the same thing. Because it will happen.

2 Thessalonians 3:13 NIV [13] And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.

James 4:7 NIV[7] Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

When temptation strikes, remember our purpose. We represent Jesus to the world around us. So He can use us to draw people to Himself so they can be saved. That's the goal. We live so others will be saved.

So I encourage you not to freak out, but just resist, take the way of escape, and keep moving forward. Don't let this crap wear you out, and God will bring us out of it and will restore and strengthen us. He is always faithful and He will do it.

The Fruit of the Vine?

We all have words, behaviors, actions, and reactions in our lives. As Christians, these are considered "fruit." The fruit of our lives.

Jesus said:

Matthew 12:33 NIV

[33]  “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

And:

Matthew 12:35 NIV

[35] A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

He establishes here that we produce whatever is inside our heart, whatever builds in our soul.

As Christians, the Holy Spirit dwells within us. So that's why Paul said to be led by the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:16 NIV [16] So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

If we listen to the Holy Spirit's leading in our spirit then Jesus, by the Spirit, produces good fruit within our lives.

He said HE is the Vine and we are the branches. HE produces the fruit through us. HE does it by the Holy Spirit within us.

John 15:5 NIV

[5]  “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

How? If we remain in Him and His words remain in us then we'll bear much GOOD fruit by the Holy Spirit inside us.

What fruit? The fruit of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Galatians 5:22-23 NIV

[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

So, what's the point?

If we let the Holy Spirit lead us everyday, then Jesus will bear His fruit within us by the Holy Spirit inside us, and THAT GOOD FRUIT will influence every person around us. Then God will use that to draw people to Himself so they can be saved.

Our good fruit is meant to be eaten by those around us. It's all to influence those around us. Everything we do in life matters to someone, influences someone. They eat the fruit of our lives. We don't eat it ourselves. They do. Every single time.

Have you ever seen an apple tree pluck an apple from one of its branches and eat it himself? 😂 Nope. Can't be done.

Same thing. We can't eat our own fruit. It is made for others to enjoy.

When they enjoy it, when they enjoy our love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; then God can use that to draw people to Himself so they can be saved, which is the main purpose for our lives.

Let go. Don't force it. Walk by the Spirit's guidance, and watch the Holy Spirit produce the good fruit in our lives.

We are "the branches" of our awesome Vine, Jesus Christ!! We can do this! Like Paul said:

Philippians 4:13 NKJV [13] I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Focus On the Eternal

Everyday we have a choice as Christians. We live in a temporary world with temporary things and temporary issues and circumstances. We can act like everyone else on this planet and dwell on all the temporary things and be consumed by it, or we can rise above it. We can lift our hearts and minds to a heavenly perspective.

We are already "seated in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus" as far as God is concerned.

Ephesians 2:6 NIV [6] And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

Our citizenship is already in heaven,

Philippians 3:20 NIV [20] But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

We already belong to a heavenly, holy nation. We are God's special possession. Why? So we can walk around down here consumed by all the temporary things that others are consumed by? No my friends. We belong to Jesus. We are His representatives so that He will draw others to Himself through us. So that others will be saved.

1 Peter 2:9 NIV [9] But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

We are here "to declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." With our whole lives, we exhibit the "light" we walk in which is Jesus Christ, being forever clothed with Christ. We're here to show the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ. Show that others can be saved too.

We focus on our heavenly kingdom and focus on our KING the Lord Jesus Christ. We do the "day-to-day" while setting our sights on Jesus, as He sits at the right hand of God the Father in heaven!! Don't focus on the temporal because none this will last.

Let's "fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith," Heb.12:2

Let's "set our minds on things above, not on earthly things,"

Colossians 3:1-2 NIV [1] Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. [2] Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Let's set our hearts on our heavenly family everyday:

Hebrews 12:22-24 NIV [22] But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, [23] to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, [24] to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Don't dwell on all this stuff around us. Stay focused on Jesus. Focus on eternal things.

Remember where we're going, not where are or where we've been.

Why Go To Church?

Just a quick message on going to church.

It says:

Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV

[24] And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, [25] not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Why go to church?

This passage shows that it is all about encouraging one another. All over the New Testament it talks about helping each other, loving each other, encouraging each other, bearing one another's burdens, praying for each other, forgiving each other, giving to each other, learning from each other, mourning with those who mourn, rejoicing with those who rejoice, and so on.

We go to church to help other Christians and be helped by other Christians. It's a push and pull, a give and take that strengthens all of us. We can't do that sitting on the couch at home when the church meets.

Also, the Church members all have different gifts and talents that Jesus wants to use to build up the church. Can't do it if we're at home.

Another reason to go to church is for protection. By meeting together, we can strengthen each other and renew our minds together so that no "bitter root" grows in our hearts and hurts many other people.

Hebrews 12:15 NIV

[15] See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

It also prevents us from falling prey to the devil. When we are part of a community there is strength in numbers. We build relationships and a support system for times of trouble through the Church.

Plus, we can't do the main thing Jesus taught us, which was His new command:

John 13:34-35 NIV

[34]  “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. [35] By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

We can't love one another if we're not around each other.

Lastly, David taught us how to remain strong in the Lord:

Psalms 92:12-15 NIV

[12] The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; [13] planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. [14] They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, [15] proclaiming, “The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”

"Planted" or rooted in a local church we will remain strong all our lives. We'll bear fruit all our lives, clean into old age.

Isolated, we set ourselves up for attack, for loneliness, and so many other things that going to church will prevent.

So if you don't go, I encourage you to find a local church to go to. If you do go to church, then keep it up.

Accept Everyone

How many of you know that Disney movie called "High-School Musical?" I watched it several times with my daughter back when she was little. I remembered this one hook in one of the songs which said,"We're all in this together," and I realized how true that statement was. No matter who you are or what you do, WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER here on planet earth.

With that in mind, as Christians, following Jesus' example, we accept everyone. We never reject anyone! We treat everyone the same.

Why? Because we don't know who is saved and who isn't.

So love (I. Cor. 13:4-8), which is deciding in advance how you will treat people, and accept all people all the time.

During Jesus' whole time on earth, he did this. Why? To save the lost.

Luke 19:10 NIV [10] For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

That's why he ate and visited with anybody, while the teachers of the Law and Pharisees did not.

In Luke 15 they judged him for doing so and he gave a 3 part parable to explain His main goal which was to seek and save the lost. All 3 parts, something is lost and then something is saved. That explained to them why He hung out with anyone. So that they could be saved.

Paul had the same mindset as Jesus did when he said:

1 Corinthians 9:22b. NIV [22]... I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.

Jesus and Paul were the best examples of accepting everybody. Why? So people could be saved.

So that's the goal, that's the purpose, that's the motivation, that people will be saved and receive eternal life too.

All that happens by how we accept people into our lives. So accept all people into our lives.

Remember, "WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!"
