Ask God!

When Jesus came down the mountain, after His Transfiguration, with Peter, James, and John, they came upon his disciples and teachers of the law arguing with each other. They argued because a man brought his demon-possessed son to them and they couldn't heal him. So, the Dad approaches Jesus for help and that's where this blog post will focus in.

Mark 9:14-27 NIV

[14] When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them. [15] As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him. [16]  “What are you arguing with them about?” he asked. [17] A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. [18] Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.” [19]  “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” [20] So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. [21] Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. [22] “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” [23]  “ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” [24] Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” [25] When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” [26] The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” [27] But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.

Notice verse 22 and 23:

. [22] “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” [23]  “ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” [24] Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

The Dad said, "IF you can do anything, take pity on us and help us."

Jesus repeated what he said because he doubted Jesus could help. Almost like "What do you mean if I can? Of course I can heal him."

Then he said what I want to focus on: “Everything is possible for one who believes.”

This is the focal point. EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE FOR THE ONE WHO BELIEVES.

Believes what? That Jesus is who He says He is and has unlimited power and supremacy to work in our lives. We have to believe in our hearts that He will do anything for us according to God's will.

We limit God working in our lives because of unbelief. We prevent Jesus from working in our lives with disqualifying statements like, "Oh he'd never do that for me." Or "I can't ask God for that." We can't do this anymore. We have to have faith that Jesus can do anything for us in this life by His power and authority. Nothing limits Him.

Colossians 1:15-19 NIV

[15] The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. [16] For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. [17] He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. [18] And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. [19] For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,

Nothing limits Him as He sits at the Father's right hand. He has all power in every realm right now and forever. He will work in our lives. We just have to ask God in prayer. Do not limit Him by what you think He will or will not do. ASK GOD!!!

James 4:2b. NIV

[2b.]You do not have because you do not ask God.

Whatever you need, ask Him!! Believe with all your heart that He can and will do it!!! Jesus can do anything!! Praise God!!!

Jesus tells us this, to pray by faith!!

Mark 11:24 NIV

[24] Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Ask God, believe you have already received it, and it will be yours. Have faith that God will work it out. Don't have fear, worry, or doubt because that stems from unbelief or lack of faith. Those creep in when we don't believe God will do what we asked of Him.

Just believe Him at His word, trusting Him, and watch Him work in your life!!

*Warning: Ask Him with the right motives or for the right reasons though or it won't happen.

James 4:3 NIV

[3] When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

God knows your heart. So ask Him for whatever, but do it for the right reasons.

Do not limit God by unbelief.

Ask God in prayer!!!

ALL things are possible to him who believes!!!

He loves us and will do anything for us!!! So ask God!!!

*Let His peace guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus by doing this:

Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

[6] Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. [7] And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

*Then trust this promise of God:

Philippians 4:19 NIV

[19] And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
