Help God Help You

Throughout the gospels, we see Jesus perform miracle after miracle. In every instance, the people had to have faith. In the case of the apostles, they had to do something that accompanied their faith. This a great lesson for us in how God works in our lives today. Let's read about it, when Jesus fed 5000 men plus women and children:

Mark 6:30-42 NIV

[30] The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. [31] Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” [32] So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place. [33] But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. [34] When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things. [35] By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. [36] Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” [37] But he answered, “You give them something to eat.” They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?” [38]  “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.” [39] Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. [40] So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. [41] Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. [42] They all ate and were satisfied,

In verses 39-42, we see Jesus telling the apostles to get involved before He performed the miracle. He had them seat the people in groups of fifties and a hundred. Then in verse 41, when he started the miracle, he had the apostles distribute the food to the people. Jesus performed the miracle but had the apostles do their part to make it reality. He does the same today in some instances.

The lesson? By faith, we ask God to work miracles in our lives and He will and does. However, we have to do everything on our "side of the fence" for Him to work it out in our lives. I have experienced this personally in my own life.

For example, let's say you need a job and pray and ask God to give you a job. You ask by faith in prayer, trusting on Him to work it out. Well, you have a part to play, just like the apostles did to make that miracle a reality. You have to fill out applications, go on job interviews, run out every lead. You cannot sit on the couch and just wait for someone to call you. When you do everything you can do, then this gives God a way to open that door for you. It also shows you trust Him and are expecting, and depending on Him to work in your life. You take action, by faith, and trust in God to work it out.

We live by faith not by sight. This is trusting God. This is depending on our Heavenly Father to take care of us and provide for us just like He said He would.

You can take this lesson and apply it to anything you need in life. Do all you can and then wait on God to do His part.

Jesus said, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you."

He wants to help you. He's eager to bless you.

Psalms 84:11-12 NIV

[11] For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. [12]  Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.
