As Christians, how do we "walk by the Holy Spirit," or how are we "led by the Spirit?" It is a continual daily process of renewing your mind, reminding yourself who you are in Christ, and letting that control your life. It all starts with how and what you think about.
Why is it important? Because you think a thought, which produces a feeling, which then produces a behavior or action. (Thought-feeling-action).
We want to walk in the Spirit and be led by Him, not walk in our human nature. Why? Because we, the Church, represent Jesus Christ while we live here. We want to think right to have right behaviors, because we represent Jesus.
God is making His appeal to the world through us, so they can go to heaven too. By our lives, God will draw them to Himself as the Holy Spirit convicts them of their sin and their need for Jesus Christ to save them.
So we want to have right thoughts that lead to right behaviors so we can influence the people around us in a positive way. So they will be drawn to God by the Holy Spirit in us. End result? So they can be saved too.
How do we do this? Ephesians 4:22-24 and Romans 12:2a. tells us.
Ephesians 4:22-24 NIV [22] You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; [23] to be made new in the attitude of your minds; [24] and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Verse 23 says "be renewed in the attitude of your mind." We renew our mind daily as to who we are in Christ and how we are supposed to live now. You do this by reading and studying God's Word. Then your thinking will lead to feelings that will lead to actions. God will use us to save others!! We all have this purpose, no matter who you are.
Romans 12:2a. NIV
[2] Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
This says simply, do not do what everyone else in the world is doing. We represent Jesus, so don't live and act like everyone else does. How? Again, renew your mind, change the way you think. Do this everyday. How? By studying the Bible everyday. The New Testament teaches us how to live. So start there.
Why? Because God will use our influence to save people.
Pray and ask God to show you in the New Testament who you are in Christ and how He wants you to live. He will open your eyes by the Holy Spirit in you. Takes notes, memorize the passages and then renew your thinking everyday as to who you are in Christ. This will change your thinking, change your feelings, which will change your actions, which will change your life.
Then God will use you to influence people, so they can be saved too.
