How We Love Jesus.

As I continue studying the book of John, in Chapter 14 and selections from 15, we learn how to love our Lord Jesus Christ. I must admit that He is very "black and white" with this topic, very little gray areas. If we love Him we'll do this or that. If we don't love him we won't do this or that. He is very straightforward in the text. I love how our Lord Jesus never makes you wonder what He is saying.

At the start of the new year, this will definitely give us all something to look into and spend time with. If one needs direction on what to pursue this year, this is it! This will lay the foundation for us to stand on everyday. Jesus is the Rock we stand on. He is the "anchor for our souls." So let's look.

Now on with the text:

John 14:15 NIV

[15]  “If you love me, keep my commands.

John 14:21 NIV

[21] Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

John 14:23-24 NIV

[23] Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. [24] Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

John 15:9-10 NIV

[9] “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. [10] If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

So we see here that Jesus tells us to obey his commands and teachings as all he has said comes from the Father, and that's how we show Him that we love Him. That's how we love Jesus.

Is that an impossible task? Nope. We have help from the Holy Spirit that lives inside each one of us:

John 14:26 NIV

[26] But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

So, if you are going to show Jesus that you love Him by obeying His commands and teachings, you have to learn what those commands and teachings are. You can start off this year making that your goal. Learn all the commands and teachings of Jesus. All these are found in the first four books of the New Testament which are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

Start reading at Matthew and take notes. Write down every command or every teaching He gives and you'll be well on your way. Then start applying what you learn to your life. This makes Jesus the foundation of our lives. We show him we love him by building our lives on His words. Then all other scripture branches out from His words.

I have been doing this since April 28th, 2024. So, get ready, this will take awhile. What an awesome goal to start in 2026!! I hope you will make it your ambition to pursue this. I hope you learn every single, solitary command and teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ and implement them into your everyday life.

There is no time schedule, no pressure. Do this as you see fit and God will bless you for it. He will add more truth to the truth you learn as you go.

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled." Matthew 5:6.

Don't forget, you are not alone. The Holy Spirit will guide you and help you along the way.

As they say in sports, "LET'S GO!!!"

Love you all dear readers,

Jeffrey Post
