A Gauge for Our Lives

A few months back, I was studying Colossians chapter three. I came across a verse and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I had an epiphany at that moment. In our everyday lives, the Word says to "examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith"

2 Corinthians 13:5a NIV

[5] Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.

("In the faith?"-Are you trusting and depending on God for your life?)

This verse is a great gauge to use to test yourselves everyday:

Colossians 3:17 NIV

[17] And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Wow!! What a way to test ourselves.

Whatever we do, our words, our thoughts, or our actions, can we do them in the name of the Lord Jesus, and give thanks to God the Father through Jesus or in Jesus' name? Ouch!!!

This is a great gauge to use everyday. I must confess, as I'm sure you would too, that a lot of things we do or think or say, we cannot do in the name of the Lord Jesus, much less give thanks to God for it.

For example, if I get irritated at a customer on my job, then I cannot do that in the name of the Lord Jesus because He tells us to put off anger.

See?

Whatever we do, can we do it in the name of the Lord Jesus? Can we give thanks to God the Father for it?

This gauge will force us to slow down and see if Jesus would want us to do or say this or that in His name.

So, memorize this verse or write it down. Use it to examine your life at anytime. When, not if, we fall short, confess your sin and keep moving forward.

1 John 1:9 NIV-[9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Again, why should we do this? Because, as Christians, we represent Jesus on this Earth. He uses us to bring people to Himself so they can be saved too.

So awesome.

Share this with friends and families!

Love you all,
