As Christians, we renew our minds everyday to who we are. We are children of God (I. John 3:1; Romans 8:16, John 1:12,13). We do not just have a physical family, but we are adopted into our spiritual family, the kingdom of God, the Church. Whoever has been born again is adopted into this new eternal family. We are included "in Christ" now. In God's eyes, being in Christ now, we are "seated with Him in the heavenly realms" (Ephesians 2:6), our "citizenship is in heaven" (Phill.3:20-21) now, although we still live on Earth.
So, being in this eternal family of God, along with our physical family, how should we live out our lives here? Should we live like everyone else who has not been adopted into the family of God? No.
We should do what our new parent wants. God, the Father is our new parent. He is our Heavenly Father. How does He want us to live? We find out in His Word.
God gives us understanding and wisdom in this life through His Word on what path to take in life. Like any good parent, He protects us and guides us on what road to take, what path to follow in life.
He wants us to take the "road less travelled," because we are His children:
Matthew 7:13-14 NIV
[13] “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. [14] But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
We can't take just any old road we want, and by the help of the Holy Spirit, we won't because He guides us everyday. How does He guide us? Through the Word and in our spirit. God is with us everyday and we can be confident in the love God has for His children. He'll show us the path:
Isaiah 42:16 NIV
[16] I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.
By staying in His Word, He shows us what path to take such as in Proverbs 2:6-15:
Proverbs 2:6-15 NIV
[6] For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. [7] He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, [8] for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. [9] Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path. [10] For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. [11] Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. [12] Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, [13] who have left the straight paths to walk in dark ways, [14] who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, [15] whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways.
And:
Psalms 1:1 NIV
[1] Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,
God loves us and the more we read His Word, the more we learn what path to walk.
Look at this:
Proverbs 4:10-27 NIV
[10] Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many. [11] I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. [12] When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble. [13] Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life. [14] Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers. [15] Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way. [16] For they cannot rest until they do evil; they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble. [17] They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence. [18] The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. [19] But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble. [20] My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. [21] Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; [22] for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. [23] Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. [24] Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. [25] Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. [26] Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. [27] Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
See? He just spells it out right there. So cool.
David understood this notion of staying in God's Word to stay on the right path when He said:
Psalms 119:104 NIV
[104] I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.
And...
Psalms 119:101 NIV
[101] I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word.
By staying in the Word, reading God's Word, He will show us what path to take everyday. He will always show us the road.
Please share this with friends and family.
Love you dear readers,
